Jed Smith joined the National Association of Realtors in 2008 as managing director, Quantitative Research. Jed has approximately 20 years of experience in analyzing commercial real estate and residential housing markets, based on work as a manager with General Electric's Power Business, and as director of Market Planning and Analysis for Washington Gas. Special areas of expertise include marketing, planning and economic analysis. He has focused on both understanding the real estate markets and on implementing the use of the information for business planning and development purposes.
His economics degrees include a Ph.D. and M.S. from Purdue University, and an A.B. from Hamilton College. He has taught as an adjust professor in MBA and undergraduate marketing programs and also has experience in managing major marketing databases.
 Alexander Villacorta, Ph.D
Director, Research and Analytics, Clear Capital
Dr. Alexander “Alex” Villacorta is director of Research and Analytics, Data Division, for Clear Capital. Alex is responsible for the research and development of Clear Capital’s innovative tools and methodologies for analyzing vast amounts of real estate data and providing commentary and analysis on the condition of nationwide markets.
Alex created the statistical models which drive the Clear Capital Home Data Index™ (HDI), a powerful tool that delivers the most current and accurate market measures possible. Alex also contributes his insight to the company’s monthly HDI Market Report, which offers a near real-time look at pricing conditions at the national, metropolitan and local market levels.
Alex also works with many leading banks, investment firms and mortgage servicers, providing analytical insight into local markets so they can make vital investment decisions with confidence. He is a published author and has been featured on CNBC, National Public Radio, Bloomberg Businessweek and in many other national media as an expert in real estate trends. Alex received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Michigan, his master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. in Applied Probability and Statistics from University of California, Santa Barbara.
