Alex Charfen
Distressed Property Institute

Alex Charfen co-founded the Distressed Property Institute in January 2008 after more than a decade as a real estate agent helping distressed homeowners find solutions to their difficult situations. When the market began to shift, Charfen found that he could help many more homeowners, and have a direct impact upon the massive wave of foreclosures across the United States, by training other agents to handle distressed properties. Since the Institute’s inception, thousands of real estate professionals have attended his education courses and achieved the Certified Distressed Property Expert® (CDPE) Designation, making it the fastest-growing designation in real estate industry history.

The secret to Charfen’s success is his unique perspective on the distressed property market, having personally counseled hundreds of distressed homeowners. His program emphasizes identifying the best solution for each individual homeowner, and the importance of open communications among all parties involved in a distressed property transaction.

Expanding from, yet true to these core ideals, Charfen has created the real estate industry’s fastest growing designation: the CDPE. Today, Charfen and his team of expert trainers travel the country training thousands of professionals on how to help distressed sellers, deal with absentee owners, perform short sales, and fully address homeowner needs in this chaotic real estate market. These real estate professionals then become CDPE members, with access to monthly calls, marketing materials, the CDPE Designation, and the CDPE Community Forum to share referrals and best practices.

Charfen is a professional coach, author and keynote speaker at events across the country. He has been a featured speaker for numerous industry organizations, including: RE/MAX Coaching Hall of Fame; STAR POWER Systems; Keller Williams; the Women’s Council of Realtors® (WCR); Number 1 Expert; The RedEX; Tour Factory; and the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS).
